They’re so near and yet so far away.
    A post-series reunion oneshot.

    Centering by PennyDrdful [21k]

Post-Intervention. The monks never managed to get the Dagon Sphere to Sunnydale. Thanks to his own research, and full access to the Council’s resources, Giles has discovered its existence and location in Elk City, Oklahoma. Viewing it as imperative in the defeat of Glory, he sends Buffy and Spike on a road trip to recover it. Anger, snark, and UST ensues.

    Myth Taken by Twinkles [23k]

In a comfortable Californian town in the year 2110, Benji meets his new neighbours and discovers a strange tale of family history that skews the lines between fact and fiction.

    Undead by noripori [26k]

Buffy’s finally on the verge of ending things with Spike. Then she finds out he’s dead.
Starts from an alternate version of s06e15 “As You Were”. Buffy thinks some of Riley’s military boys killed Spike. Her reaction surprises everyone, most of all herself.
Turns out Spike’s as alive as ever, but when he gets back, it’s Buffy who isn’t quite the same.

Close to Home by Sigyn [33k]

It’s Homecoming. Buffy is trying to reclaim her place as a popular girl after Angel was unceremoniously dusted returning from whatever hell dimension he’d been in. Unfortunately, fate seems to have decided to throw another vampire into her lap. Desperate to win back the affections of Drusilla, Spike has come to win Slayerfest. But the loss of both loves hits a little close to home for Spike and Buffy. They both have a lot to learn about what Homecoming means.

The Heart’s Filthy Lesson by rivkat and MustangSally [37k]

In 2001 the evil from 1936 has reared its ugly head. A Nazi demon with an unpronouceable name and a vampire henchman has decided to use Sunnydale as a recruiting center for the disenfranchised and discontented undead. How will Buffy/Spike and the rest of the Scoobies manage to consign this particular evil back where it belongs? Written at the beginning of Season 5.

Ripples on a Hellmouth by stuffandnonsense [48k]

It’s 2023, and an epic war is underway between good and evil. This time around, good is losing. But Willow’s found a way to turn the tides by sending Buffy back into her past. The catch? She can’t change anything directly. Will Buffy choose wisely and save the world, maybe even herself? Or just make everything worse?

Persephone the Wanderer by Kirinin [54k]

When Buffy returns from the dead, she brings something unusual with her, and leaves something important behind.

Beg the Liquid Red by Eurydice [87k]

A night out to try and forget Angel’s meddling in her life leads Buffy down a different path than the one she had planned. Old faces are like new again, and what’s new is most definitely old.

Lil’ Ripper Makes a Friend by Soulburnt [227k]

    From a challenge by tempestt:
When he was a wee laddie, Rupert Giles found himself in a bit o’ trouble.  Come on, we all know 10 year-old Giles would’ve been a little hellion.  Spike, who’s around because he’s hunting the slayer Giles’s grandmother is assigned to is impressed by Giles’s swaggering bravado and helps him out.  In doing so he dubs Giles Lil’ Ripper.  A much more fitting name than nancy boy Rupert.
So begins an on-and-off, life long friendship between the two…  When Spike shows up in School Hard Giles immediately recognizes Buffy’s description so he sets up a meet.  After finding out why Spike is at the Hellmouth, Giles strikes a deal.  He’ll help Spike heal Drusilla if Spike agrees to help his slayer for an indeterminate amount of time.

  • It's very interesting to me that they seemingly purposefully juxtapose Spike with other vampires several times in season 2 in ways that not only make him more human but also less evil. I don't just mean the Judge saying that he has humanity or his team-up with Buffy in "Becoming" (though those also contribute). He came to the hellmouth to help nurse his sick partner back to health. He allows several potential victims to be freed in order to save Drusilla from Buffy in "Lie to Me". He actively discourages it when Dru wants to torture one of their minions in "Surprise". He gifts Dru a necklace in "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered", juxtaposed to Angel's gift of a human heart. He pets the dog that Dru gives him as a snack instead of eating it in "Passion". He repeatedly tells Angel to stop toying with Buffy and seemingly thinks that psychologically torturing someone (rather than fighting them outright) is lame.

Some of this is obviously to show just how unbelievably evil soulless Angel is, but it also implicitly tells the audience that Spike is capable of acting selflessly for the people he cares about (Dru), he doesn't care much for torture, and can even do something that is ostensibly good (helping save the world) if he is given a reason to, which directly contradicts what we are told vampires are capable of. It fits very well with where they take him in future seasons but it is kind of crazy that they were doing this with a character that was initially only meant to appear in 5 episodes.

  • katniss : “haymitch hates me so much! he despises me and everything about me!”

peeta : “that’s true. only i think he hates me even more…”

haymitch in actual canon : “those two are my only reasons for living and the only people left on this earth I love.”

  • watching my promised afternoon thunderstorm slip from a 90% chance to a 20% chance.... baby come back i can change

  • still kills me that after several hours in her company with very different behavior, speech patterns, and mannerisms, the Scoobies didn’t know that Buffybot wasn’t Buffy until the real one walked through the door. while Spike, beaten bloody and barely conscious, nearly unable to move or see, can identify the real Buffy in a second even as she is consciously imitating the bot to every last detail. true love is seeing, and he sees her more than anyone else.

  • Being a spuffy shipper is so fun because I'll just be tinhatting and conspiracy-boarding in order to prove the existence and legitimacy of the ship that. you know. dominated the last three seasons of the show.

I recently watched Buffy for the first time in my life, and it was an incredible adventure. It's been a long time since I was so drawn in that I couldn't even sleep properly. A wonderful show about growing up, life, and the difficulties along the way. I'm so glad I got to know it, I want to erase my memory and watch it again 😂

I tried to capture the actors' facial features from different angles and accidentally got a whole collage. It's not my habit to publish sketches, but I like these too much
